About Psychotherapy

 

Psychotherapy can be helpful at times when life becomes problematic. Relationship difficulties, work issues or problems resurfacing from childhood are some of the issues which can reduce our ability to deal with the challenges of everyday life.

 

Psychotherapy can put things into perspective, help break old patterns of destructive thought or behaviour, and promote change in relation to longstanding problems. Psychotherapy can also be useful when there is no clear ‘problem’ on which to focus, but life feels difficult or unsatisfactory.


Some difficulties are more deep-seated than others, but many issues can be improved by a short term intervention of four to six sessions.  A series of six to twelve sessions is more common and some people benefit from psychotherapy which lasts for a year or more. Sessions usually take place once a week, sometimes fortnightly.
